Marriage is the foundation for the family. It is the position of your marriage or your marriage worth that determines the worth and position of your family. Whatsoever is wrong in your marriage also will be wrong in your family. That is why you must be very serious about your marriage so as to be able to develop a sound family.
Marriage involves two people but family involves two or more people. The wife and the husband in marriage are the two people that start a family but as they become fruitful and they are blessed with children, the family becomes larger.
Importantly because marriage is the foundation for the family we must be very cautious in handling marriage. Foundation is also a very important part of any building. It may not be beautiful, it may not be visible but that is what determines the life, beauty, strength stability and future of the building. The word of God says in Ps. 11:3 – “If the foundation be destroyed what can the righteous do”.
Your Attitude:
Whatever you get involved in and whatsoever behavior you put up in your marriage is very likely to be some of those things you gathered in the family you belonged to before you started your own nucleus family by reason of your marriage. So whatever you want your children and members of your family to become is what you should let them see in your marriage.
Total Family:
The total family is that in which the members there are blessed with all things that pertain to life and Godliness. It’s a family in which the virtues of life are found. It’s also a family that is complete in the essential factors of life. In health, they enjoy sound and stable health, in spiritual things they are sound, educationally they have high standard and in their emotion they are stable and in reasoning they are reasonable and intelligent. In behaviour they are level headed. It is a family in which the virtue of patience and love are exhibited.It means therefore, that partners in a marriage must teach these virtues and also live with them. Their relationship must exemplify the virtues. A wise man said a little caution is better than a great regret. The word of God says “…….. blessed is the man that feareth the Lord …….. His seed shall be mighty upon the earth………… wealth and riches shall be in his house …… Ps. 112: 1 – 3.
Origin Of Marriage:
God Himself instituted marriage (Genesis 2:18). Marriage is a sacred institution of order with a system of principles and rules. Marriage is therefore NOT a social convenience as people erroneously thought. It is not a cultural thing either; getting married is not to fulfill a cultural obligation. It is scriptural with scriptural principles and guidelines to apply.
It is your obedience to the word of God in your marriage that helps sustain your relationship. It is your adherence to the rules and guidelines that helps it to produce a total family.
